KOLKATA FOOTBALL THEN

FOR THE LAST FEW DAYS I HAVE BEEN CONTEMPLATING TO PLACE BEFORE MY READERS (IS THERE ANY?) SOME SNAPS THAT ARE AVAILABLE IN THE BOOKS IN OUR FAMILY COLLECTIONS.TO DAY I AM GOING TO UPLOAD SOME SCANNED PICTURES OF THE FOOTBALL PLAYERS OF THE KOLKATA MAIDAN IN THE THIRTIES OF THE LAST CENTURY.IT WOULD BE SEEN FROM THE PHOTOS THAT OUR INDIAN PLAYERS PLAYED BARE-FOOTED.THERE IS ANOTHER REASON TO UPLOAD THE PICTURES.IN 1996-97 I HAD A ONE TO ONE TALK WITH SRI ANJAN MITRA,THE SECRETARY OF MOHUNBAGAN CLUB WHEN I IMPRESSED UPON HIM THE NEED TO COLLECT AND PRESERVE THE OLD PHOTOS WHICH REMAIN SCATTERED IN MANY NEWSPAPERS.JOURNALS,BOOKS E.T.C.HE THEN PLEADED HELPLESSNESS OWING TO PAUCITY OF FUNDS.HE ,HOWEVER,ASSURED ME THAT THEIR FINANCIAL SCARCITY WAS GOING TO BE OVER IN NO TIME AND AFTER THAT THEY WOULD PURSUE THE MATTER.I KNEW HE WAS REFERRING TO INVOLVEMENT OF U.B. IN THE KOLKATA MAIDAN.

I DO NOT KNOW WHETHER THESE PHOTOS ARE AVAILABLE AND ARE BEING PRESERVED FOR OUR FUTURE GENERATIONS.IF MY ENERGY PERMITS,I WOULD COPY THE PICTURES IN A C.D. AND FORWARD IT TO PROPER QUARTER.
PHOTOS SOURCED FROM SACHITRA BHARAT A WEEKLY JOURNAL PUBLISHED FROM ART PRESS,2O NO.BRITISH INDIAN STREET EDITED PUBLISHED AND PRINTED BY NARENDRA NATH MUKHOPADHAYA,KOLKATA, EXTINCT LONG AGO . IMAGES 1.Aryan Club,2.Hampshire Regiment,3.Mohun Bagan,4. East Bengal

PALPARA TEMPLE

ANCIENT TEMPLE AT PALPARA

Today I would like to upload the images of the much talked about ancient Palpara temple. This temple was included in the List of Ancient Monuments in Bengal(1896).It is believed to be more than 500 years old and is now being maintained by the Archaeological Survey of India.

The length of this south-facing temple is 26 feet 8 inches, breadth 21 feet and height almost 40 feet.
It has a dome-shaped roof and terracotta works. One can notice the scenes of the war from the Ramayana –at the entrance.
